Anne Hillman – We Look With Uncertainty

“Something new is being born in us
if we but let it.”

– Anne Hillman

Anne Hillman is an author and spiritual mentor whose book, Awakening the Energies of Love was inspired by the following quote from Pierre Teilhard de Chardin: ‘Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides, and gravity, we shall begin to harness the energies of Love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, humanity will have discovered Fire.’ Hillman’s short poem about uncertainty and regeneration acknowledges the vulnerability of human existence ‘which is every moment / at the brink of death’, standing, waiting, ‘learning to love.’

We Look With Uncertainty

We look with uncertainty
beyond the old choices for
clear-cut answers
to a softer, more permeable aliveness
which is every moment
at the brink of death;
for something new is being born in us
if we but let it.
We stand at a new doorway,
awaiting that which comes…
daring to be human creatures,
vulnerable to the beauty of existence.
Learning to love.
