Holiness is found hidden in surprising places, even in the midst of bustling urban confines, in Brandon James O’Neil’s poem “The Encounter”. Much like his poem “City Adhan” (previously published by The Dewdrop here: https://thedewdrop.org/2022/08/28/brandon-oneil-city-adhan/), Brandon expresses his talent for finding divinity in the places that aren’t typically thought to be rife with God.
The Encounter
The audacious tree
—–sent its wet branch
———-face-level on the sidewalk
Dogwalkers rushing against me
—–meant I should either
———-bend beneath that branch
—–or brush it away
like flies
But no time to think I
—–walked into
———-its cool leaves
And there on Columbus Avenue
—–my cheek was caressed by
———-the hand of God
