Kashiana Singh – In Samadhi

The Dewdrop is honored to publish the meditative haiku sequence “In Samadhi” by poet and speaker Kashiana Singh. Like her phenomenal haiku sequence “Unknowing”, previously published by The Dewdrop (https://thedewdrop.org/2023/12/31/kashiana-singh-unknowing/), “In Samdhi” as a whole is a nourishing work of stillness and awareness, but each of the ten haiku that comprise the work is a like a self-contained jewel of enlightenment and holiness. “I read recently about a study done on Long COVID and the results confirmed that even if patients were able to get a ‘few microdoses’ of meditation into their daily routine the impact of stillness was life-changing,” Kashiana told The Dewdrop, continuing, “What better way to stay in awe for a practicing poet than to use my daily walks to pause, and notice and use the simplicity of haiku poetic practice to gather my meditative moments?” She concluded, “These may not pass the purist haiku test, but they did serve very well for my pause practice.”

In Samadhi

snow peaks
walking towards
your vastness

ocean sounds
cowrie shells glimmer
in samadhi

visiting sparrow
school season starts
tomorrow

freeway view
for hours I stare
in awe

dawn chorus
I pack my mindfulness
to go

summer solstice
renewed angst of being
in life

meditation cushion
I journal every excuse
to be unquiet

padmasana
my grandson deepens
into my lap

bird’s eye view
the Annapurna rises
into a center

newborn sun
in the morning mist
lone cormorant
